Panzer Battles: Perekop 1941 Available for Download



THE BATTLE On September 17, 1941 having assumed command of the 11th Armee, General Erich von Manstein shifted the strategic focus of the army away from Melitipol and instead towards breaking into the Crimea by way of the Perekop isthmus. After a lengthy reconnaissance of the Soviet defenses there, General Hansen of the LIV Corps was instructed to begin his attack against Perekop and the Tartar Wall defensive line on the morning of September 24. Over 2,000 replacements, artillery assets and part of LSSAH were assigned to Hansen to assist with and exploit the breakthrough.

Do we make a copy of the original files and then just let these override the originals?

Hi Alan. That is how I did it. I copied the originals and put them in a safe place so that I have for when I want to play Kursk and then I replaced them with these new files.

Hi,

If I've managed to do it right then Chris' work should work fine within the original build of Kursk. That said, it's always safe to have a backup.

Yes, nothing is being overwritten that I can see. I always use JSGME (Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler) with stuff like this anyway - it makes it very easy to add mods and remove them without messing up your original install.

Great scenarios Chris! These really show off the flexibility of the PzB engine in covering an earlier period, thanks to the new OOBs and equipment from Dave and his team.

I just did a clean install over Kursk (version 1.01) and am not seeing an issue. Please ensure you are extracting the file UNDER Perekop 41 into Kursk and overwrite where asked.

If you don't overwrite some files like the unit.dat then you will see the message you are. You probably have a Perekop 1941 folder under Kursk - if so you need to copy the directories under there into Kursk...

Hi Brad. I think the Blitz is the only dedicated one. I know Grogheads covers JTS games but I don't remember there being a dedicated link.

Good day, Chris! Many thanks for your work - this map and scenarios is great! But for historical identity, should be replaced Image for Soviet engeeners platoon (this painting depicts a soldier of assault engineering brigades). The Assault engineering brigades appeared after 1943 and used steel body armour and camo suits.

September 12, 1942, just before sunset: [Historical scenario] Japanese Major General Kiyotake Kawaguchi has come to Guadalcanal to lead the attack against the Marine foothold on the island at Henderson Airfield. The I and III battalions of the 124th Infantry regiment are to attack from the south, along with the Kuma Battalion, II battalion of the 4th infantry regiment 19th engineer battalion. Kawaguchi will personally lead these battalions. A composite of Japanese engineers, special naval landing troops and the Oka Force, II Bn 124 Inf Rgt are to attack from the West. John Tiller's Campaign Series - Buy It Now

John Tiller's campaign series game for $9.99 at  Matrix Games Ltd.  is a steal. There are so many great scenarios. I have been playing a Fastov scenario this morning detailing the 25th Panzer Division probe into a Soviet armor formation in 1943. If my memory is correct, the division commander is killed and the reconnaissance battalion is wiped out. The Campaign Series game lays this meeting engagement out on a beautiful map with the full OOB (over 300 unit counters are present). I have considered setting up this battle before for Panzer Battles and Command Ops, so to find it in this title's scenario list this morning was very exciting! This is a zoomed out view of the northern portion of the Fastov map in the map editor. Each hex is 250 meters. In the image below, 25th Panzer is probing north towards Fastov along both sides of the Unava river.
