Scourge of War: Waterloo First Impressions

Image
SoW: Waterloo sandbox mode. Brigade level combat on the road to a nameless Belgian town. I've been waiting on this game for at least a year.  It is beautifully rendered and the interface seems much improved.  I don't remember volley fire as a SoW: Gettysburg option and the clear commands interface when moving a unit is neat.  The OOBs are fully fleshed out and look brilliant. I can't wait for the spectacle of Waterloo. I will post more about this game over my lunchtime break.

Scourge of War: Road to Wagram 1.6

Last night I reinstalled the Road to Wagram mod as I prepare for a post Command Ops future!  That's Jerome Bonaparte's corps in the distance. This is the Alpine map and I am playing as the Coalition forces at the Battle of Vimeiro. I will have an AAR using this mod very soon.

Scourge of War Sandbox Mode

I am in the middle of a 90 minute scenario of Scourge of War: Gettysburg .  I created  a "Hunt them Down" battle without objectives.  I am in command of Hood's Texas Division on the Culp's Hill map in the sandbox.  My men are SE of Gettysburg and moving to the NW with skirmishers out front.  I am really flying blind and don't have a clue where my Union opponent is.  I've spread my four brigades out as much as I dare to prevent a surprise attack from an unexpected direction.  More to follow... Benning's brigade is on my left flank.

Scourge of War: Lost In The Woods

So last night I spent about an hour playing Scourge of War: Antietam.  I commanded Jackson's Corps on the left flank and battled with Joe Hooker's First Corps. It was a great battle.  My corps waited for the Union advance in the dark and eventually made contact with them in the Cornfield and along Hagerstown Pike near Dunker Church in the early morning light (see previous AAR for brigade level version of this fight).   Elements of two of my divisions were forward and fully engaged within minutes and the third division, DH Hill's men were strung out along a nameless road resting in the rear.   While the fighting was hot on my right flank at the beginning of the battle, I reinforced my center and sent Jubal Early's brigade around the left flank of Hooker's men with the hope of catching them from behind and cutting Hooker's forward elements off in the Cornfield.  Big mistake. The ground was uneven and sloping upwards.  Union artillery commanded the heights...

Evening Firefight: Scourge of War: Gettysburg

I purchased the Antietam expansion for this game today because the more I learn about the game the better it gets and the level of historical accuracy is unbelievable. Excited to play something, I set up a quick 30 minute firefight today on the Culp's Hill map in the game "sandbox" ( a battle generator).  I played as the Confederates and commanded McLaws Division in Longstreet's Corps.  Previously, I played this game moving each regiment individually but the scale has forced me to learn how to move on a brigade level.  My objective was Lady Farm (or Lake farm) outside of Gettysburg.  I quickly seized the heights above the farm with a brigade of infantry and moved up a battery of cannons. Semmes brigade engaged the Union army first, deploying on both side of the road leading into the farm. Wofford's brigade marches double quick up the hillside out of sight of the Union army and deploys on Semmes' left flank.   Wofford's men arrive and engag...
