Last Eagles - "Narrative building" at Ligny

Out of command units from Vandamme's III Corps move around Von Zieten's flank. There is an interesting game mechanic within " Last Eagles " by Hexasim that accounts for the impact that distance from the formation's commander can have on individual units. Each commander has a range (at Ligny that range is 8 hexes) within which commanders can exert their influence.  If a unit strays outside that range, they are considered out of command and executing independent movement. To move independently, a unit has to undergo a stress test of sorts, by rolling 2D6 to see if the roll is equal to or less than the boxed number at the bottom of each counter (unit quality factor). On top of that, they can only move half the distance they normally would under command. In my first play through of Scenario 1 and possibly because of my initial setup, Vandamme's flanks begin the game out of command.  In fact for the first two turns, they would remain outside Vandamme...

Last Eagles - The Battle of Ligny - Setup

Scenario 1:  Vandamme's III Corps lurches forward on the French left, towards the beautiful village of St. Amand. It was a New Year's gaming resolution of mine to gradually attempt to make the shift from digital games to tabletop games.  My goal is to put a new wargame on the my very small gaming table once per month. I've changed my January game probably three times (without starting any of them) and landed finally on my newest game purchase Ligny -Last Eagles - The Battle of  June 16th, 1815 from Hexasim . In true Sharp End fashion, I am reading the rules while playing the introductory scenario. GD Dominique Vandamme The game components seem very nice, though I have only a few games to compare them too.  I appreciate the map work, the absence of numbered hexes (an interesting choice), the typefont and the rounded counters.  I especially appreciate the latter as I don't have anything to clip my counters.
